For most amounts, a remittance app beats the exchange shop. Digital apps typically cost you 0.5–2% all-in on the AED→PKR corridor, while UAE exchange houses usually take 1.5–3% and UAE bank transfers take 2–4% plus a flat wire fee. With the dirham fetching around PKR 75.3–75.4 today, picking the right channel matters more than timing the rate. On the Pakistan side, money can land directly in a bank account, a JazzCash or Easypaisa wallet, or be picked up as cash — usually within minutes.
The dirham is pegged to the US dollar at AED 3.6725 = USD 1, so every AED→PKR rate is really a USD→PKR rate with a fixed divisor. The Pakistani rupee floats under the State Bank of Pakistan, so it moves daily with the dollar index, oil prices and Pakistan's external accounts. Practical consequences:
| Channel | Typical all-in cost | Speed | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remittance apps (Wise, Remitly, ACE, Al Ansari app) | 0.5–2% | Minutes – same day | Regular transfers of any size |
| Exchange houses (Al Ansari, Al Fardan, LuLu, UAE Exchange) | 1.5–3% | Minutes – same day | Cash payouts, walk-ins |
| UAE bank transfers (SWIFT/telegraphic) | 2–4% + AED 15–25 fee | 1–3 days | Very large, infrequent transfers |
Note: rates and fees move constantly — providers reprice daily. Treat the ranges above as 2026 norms and verify the live quote before sending. Use our remittance compare tool to check the current numbers.
Pakistan has fast domestic rails, which is why apps beat exchange houses on this corridor:
Watch the receiver-side fees: some wallets charge a small cash-out fee when the recipient moves money out. Factor it into your total.
What the same AED 2,000 costs through each channel, using typical 2026 pricing:
| App | Exchange house | Bank wire | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upfront fee | ~AED 25 (1.25%) | AED 15–30 | AED 15–25 |
| Rate margin vs interbank | ~0.5–1% | ~1.5–2.5% | ~2–3.5% |
| Rupees lost (approx) | Lowest | Medium | Highest |
| Delivery | Minutes to bank/wallet | Minutes, cash or bank | 1–3 days |
At today's rate (~PKR 75.3 per dirham), AED 2,000 is worth about PKR 150,600 — the gap between the cheapest app and the most expensive bank wire is several thousand rupees, real money for a family budget. Compare the live number on our remittance compare page before every send.
Via app to a bank account, JazzCash or Easypaisa: minutes to a few hours. Bank SWIFT wires take 1–3 working days.
UAE exchange houses and apps apply per-transaction and daily limits (commonly AED 25,000–50,000); large amounts may need ID and source-of-funds proof under UAE anti-money-laundering rules. Pakistan imposes no special receiving cap on family remittances.
For day-to-day spending, JazzCash and Easypaisa are fastest and free to receive; cash-out at agents costs a small fee. Bank deposits suit larger savings and are free via Raast domestically. Ask the recipient which they prefer.
