Final = Σ(score × weight) ÷ Σweights — weights need not total 100.
A grade calculator figures out your current standing in a course and — most usefully — what score you need on the final exam to reach a target grade. It handles the weighted categories teachers use (homework 20%, quizzes 15%, midterm 30%, final 35%, and so on), so you always know exactly where you stand before the last exam.
Each category contributes its weight times its average score:
Course grade = (score₁ × weight₁) + (score₂ × weight₂) + …
Weights are decimals that add up to 1 (or percentages that add up to 100%). To find the score needed on the final, rearrange the formula around the unknown:
Needed on final = (target grade − current weighted points) ÷ final weight
where "current weighted points" is the sum of (score × weight) for everything completed so far.
Your course weights: homework 40% (your average: 85), midterm 25% (your score: 78), final exam 35%. You want an overall 85.
You need a 90 on the final to finish with an 85. If the answer had come out above 100, the target would be impossible — time to aim a little lower or ask about extra credit.
No — they are normalized automatically, so 30/30/40 works the same as 3/3/4.
Yes — enter a score above 100 for that assignment.
